Exterior Appearance
For about ten years now, when we talk about flooring, we're no longer just discussing something to walk on, but rather the primary design element within a home. Sometimes, a different floor is all it takes to make the same house completely unrecognizable. This is why quality parquet can make the difference between an anonymous dwelling and an aesthetically pleasing one.
Furthermore, during the pandemic, we learned to rediscover and truly live in our homes, undoubtedly giving them greater importance than before. This is precisely why it's important to live in a place we love and feel is truly ours.
Nature
Parquet is a natural element, and precisely for this reason, it possesses characteristics that distinguish it from other types of flooring. Each plank is slightly different from the next, making it impossible to find identical ones. Furthermore, as a natural element, wood is known for its effect of reducing blood pressure and heart rate, having far more positive effects on people's health than any other material used in construction, according to the Wood Housing Humanity Report (2015).
It's also worth considering that city dwellers might not have much greenery near their homes, making parquet a "green" oasis amidst the gray of asphalt and concrete.
Like wine, it improves with age
Unlike many materials where wear and tear tends to ruin the product, parquet becomes more beautiful the more it's used. Only time can give it that lived-in look that distinguishes it, those grain patterns that acquire a special charm, and those unique color nuances bestowed by exposure to light.
A Lifetime Together
If you choose good quality parquet with an adequate top layer and a stable base (we'll explain what we mean in upcoming articles), its longevity is enormous. Typically, after about fifteen years, a wooden floor reaches a point where a small intervention is needed to bring it back to "new life."
Refinishing parquet means removing the worn-out surface layer, making it look new again. This process, where the thickness of the floor's top layer (in engineered/multi-layered flooring) allows, can be done several times, enabling the floor to "live" for decades in the same home (and saving us from having to buy a new one).
In conclusion
In conclusion, it's true that we love wooden flooring and are biased, but parquet undoubtedly holds incredible appeal for people, in addition to its historical origins. Dating back to Ancient Egypt, the most famous historical example of wooden flooring is the Palace of Versailles, home of the Sun King. Even today, thousands of people visit Versailles annually, highlighting the durability and charm of this product.
