Cleaning is a crucial aspect for all wood floor owners, and it's a question our customers regularly ask us, sometimes with a bit of concern. However, we assure you there's no need to worry; you just need to treat it like any other floor, with a few extra precautions!
First, we need to distinguish between ordinary daily cleaning and extraordinary cleaning, which should be done every few months, depending on the parquet's appearance.
Routine Cleaning
Let's start with a pH-neutral cleaning product: obviously, there are specific products available, but any product you find at the supermarket with a pH (acidity/basicity coefficient) of 7 will work, as long as it doesn't damage the parquet's finish. Then, dilute it in water according to the product's bottle instructions, dip a cloth into the solution, and wring it out thoroughly before wiping it across the entire floor surface.
Alternatively, there are mops with built-in detergent and cloth, which we also stock in our Showroom. With these, you simply press a button to spray the solution, then pass the mop over the floor to ensure even distribution of the product.
It's important to distinguish between oiled and varnished parquet floors, as the cleaning procedure is the same, but the product used differs.
Deep Cleaning
Deep cleaning, on the other hand, is done two or three times a year, depending on floor usage and personal preference. It's usually performed when the parquet starts to look a bit dull. Different wax-based products are used depending on whether the floor is varnished or oiled.
The purpose of these products is to revitalize the parquet, creating a thin film that not only restores shine to the floor but also provides a protective function. This latter aspect is particularly important for oiled floors, as they don't have the same surface protection as varnished ones. So, while you can easily forget about maintenance for a varnished floor without major issues, with an oiled floor, you need to be more diligent with deep cleaning to prevent damage.
